Why fight fire with fire… What we demonstrated today (on 6/7/2020) was utter disrespect to someone who has stood with us since the tragedy occurred with George Floyd, Jacob Frey.
I get we are all grieving, hurt, frustrated, and want to see immediate change, but we are not the only ones hurting from this. We are not the only ones that want to see change, which I firmly believe that the best way to go about it is to rise above and keep our integrity intact at all times. Fight with sophistication, tools of mass improvement and not of mass destruction. Jacob Frey deserved better today. Hell, I don’t support firing the entire MPD, either. Why cut off our nose to spite our face? What about the good officers on the force, who are likely fighting with us and against the very organization they work for? Just because we can’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not happening. What about the safety of this city if the entire force is gone? Just imagine how exponentially greater danger and injustice would be… This type of brutality just didn’t start with MPD, but exists within police departments across the nation; that doesn’t mean we obliterate all of them because of the actions of some (even if it’s the majority). I believe the response should be to figure out a different way to operate. Today’s response, in my opinion, and the ones promptly made by other organizations that made a rash decision to fire the MPD, was reactionary in every sense. They/we did not think of the danger that we would impose upon civilians by getting rid of the entire force who play a part in their safety on a regular basis – that is, the good ones who effectively carry out their civic duty and commitment to protect and serve at all times. Instead, why not protest and/or insist on a swift investigation for the last x amount of years to address and rid of the very ones who are responsible for George’s Death (which I’m sure predates 5/25/2020 by decades). The injustice behavior of one police officer on the force is a direct and perpetual trait of the other racist officers and they are who we should be focused on. In my opinion, we should be fighting for justice to be served for officers who have continuously displayed unethical behaviors and embracing those who upheld their honor and commitment to protect and serve, even when the majority of the department (if that is the case) did not. I strongly believe Jacob deserves better and should be honored for his role that he has played in pursuing justice (even with the president fighting against him) since George Floyd’s death and before (all of the times when he was on the right side of the law as it pertains to injustice of the black race, that we may not know about). I believe Jacob deserves more consideration than we showed him today, and I believe we should not lose sight of those who are on the right side (including the MPD). Just my few cents… This is merely my belief and my opinion, which neither are up for debate. #ISTANDWITHJACOBFREY
