"Our experiences are opportunities to learn from and to create a better future for ourselves. I know first-hand how to create something out of nothing." – Qiana Hicks
Qiana Hicks is an IT Leader, AUTHOR, SPEAKER, and ADVOCATE who has overcome great odds to become SUCCESSFUL, and help others overcome those same odds. Her story is documented in her featured book, LIFE IN ITS RAWEST FORM.
OVERCOMING A DISADVANTAGED CHILDHOOD – Born in Gary, Indiana, to a mother with substance abuse problems, a biological father who ended up in jail, and a stepfather afflicted with addictions, Qiana and her siblings lived through tumultuous early years. Suffering from many forms of abuse, neglect, and poverty, they were left to raise themselves. Qiana’s family went through transition several times and were forced to live apart, while her mother underwent rehabilitation and incarceration.
TEEN MOTHERHOOD AT AGE 15 – Qiana became an adolescent parent at age 15, working tirelessly to overcome the challenges of her past, and positioning herself to face the obstacles of her future. Finishing high school on time and immediately enrolling into college after graduation, Qiana raised her son, and at times, her sister, while pursuing a college degree and building a career. She later obtained a graduate degree, refusing to allow her past to determine who and what she would become. She learned to use her past experiences as they made her stronger and wiser, and used that knowledge for opportunities and lessons for her future. A STORY TO INSPIRE OTHERS – No one in this world is perfect. Everyone is unique and have different experiences, and those are the things that set us apart. But it’s what we have done differently to improve our future that is so important. Our experiences are opportunities to learn from and to create a better future for ourselves. This is what I did so as not to repeat the sins of my past. It’s been the best form of motivation, inspiration, and therapy I could have hoped for. My past is why I was able to share my life story (the good and the bad), hoping that it would inspire others, in similar circumstances, to be better at living their lives.
